I remember when I was really judgmental about people who posted their academic journeys, weight gain or weight loss journeys, success stories, and especially those who posted their "A Day in the Life of a blah blah blah.". I used to think: “Why do you want the whole world to know your every move? Are you trying to prove something? Seeking validation? Pick-me behavior much?”
I firmly believed in the “move in silence and let your success do the talking” school of thought. You know, keep your grind hidden, show up and shock everyone. Well that's there but it doesn't give one a reason to judge someone for wanting to document theirs. When I became less judgemental and more intriuged about why that happened, I learnt a lot and decided to start my own blog too.
I started paying closer attention to these sharers.” Not the clout-chasing ones, but the ones sharing genuinely helpful things. I reached out and spoke to about five of them (some were people I knew from highschool). I wanted to understand: Why let the world in on your personal journey? And I'm quite sure I am not the only person who thought that way, some people still do.
Here’s what I learned from them:
1. Gaps become more visible, allowing you to grow faster with more direction.
2. Every post becomes proof of your journey and growth. It boosts motivation and reminds you not to downplay your efforts, especially in moments of self-doubt.
3. it builds your confidence. it takes gutsto actually post your journey: moving from 1 to 10 with a number of people seeing this progress: it can put a bit of pressure but the main goal was not for the people but for yourself
4. builds a community filled with people who support and can help you grow through constructive critisim
and when i came to understand this it also influenced me to start blogging my neuroscience study journey. something i really enjoy doing. and this is what i noticed
if i can explain the concept, then i get the concept. Do you concept? \_( ' ~ ' )_/
